Due to the fact that Clovia’s mother was raised in Tuskegee, Alabama and attended Tuskegee Institute, Clovia decided to study Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU)’s technology transfer operations. Henceforth, she wrote her PhD dissertation on the topic:

In 2014, Clovia began her journey toward earning a PhD. She started in the University of Tennessee’s Haslam College of Business and finished with a PhD in Industrial Engineering. During that time, she learned how to conduct systematic literature reviews and meta analyses.

Dr. Hamilton founded the business Lemongrass Consulting. During that time, she received government contracting training. Also, she served as a consultant and trainer in workforce development, zoning and construction permitting.

Clovia managed the University of Illinois’ engineering patent portfolio as a technology transfer specialist. Following earning her Master of Laws in intellectual property law, she was hired as the Director of Intellectual Property and Research Compliance at Old Dominion University. During that time, she began to publish law review articles. She published her LLM thesis paper:
